Julius Caesar (C. 100-44B.C.)
An extraordinary soldier and dictator of Rome. He recorded his triumphs in
distinctive essays on the Gaelic Wars. Appointed dictator for life in 44
B.C., Western history has adopted the name of Caesar to symbolize the
absolute monarch. But Caesar was much more than that- he was the protagonist
of a revolution. Death prevented him from completing the reforms which he
had begun and bringing a much needed stability to the State. In comparison
with him contemporaries, it was he who most clearly foresaw the future and
recognized necessary direction of the Roman Government.
